Melvin Sokolsky

Melvin Sokolsky is a genius historical photographer! he was born in Manhattan in the pre-war years, so during the war when there wasn't much for him to do he would read books and spend his time at the museum. Melvin Sokolsky had no formal education in photography (which is impossible to tell when you look at his work)his work came purely from instinct, desire, and careful observation. At 21 Sokolsky started to work for Harper's Bazaar where he created some of his best work. His work would be inspired by Art work such as his 1963 'Bubble' collection was inspired by Hieronymus Bosch 'The Gardens of Earthly Delights'.

When I look at Melvin Sokolsky's work it reminds me of a playful approach to fashion photography and even though it looks amazing and contemporary, its like an image a child would imagine (a smart child who was thinking of fashion photography images).
